Natural Family Planning (NFP) is an umbrella term for a variety of methods that use observations from a woman’s cycle to determine when a couple is fertile. The couple can then use that information to chose to either engage in or abstain from sexual intercourse depending on whether they would like to achieve or prevent a pregnancy.
When a couple is postponing pregnancy, NFP is as reliable as artificial contraception but is a healthier alternative – for your physical, emotional, and spiritual health! NFP uses only natural signs and does not put any chemical into the woman’s body nor require a barrier between spouses.
When a couple is trying to achieve pregnancy, NFP is as reliable as ovulation predictor kits and is a cheaper (free!) alternative. Couples who use NFP and are trying to achieve pregnancy have success 2 to 3 months sooner than those not using NFP.
When a couple is struggling to become pregnant, NFP can assist the couple and their doctor in diagnosing and treating the problem.
There are a variety of specific methods of NFP available allowing couples to choose the method that will work best for them.
